Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk met with Danish Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre to discuss Ukraine’s integration into the European Union.
Stefanchuk shared details of the meeting on his Facebook page, according to Ukrinform.
He said that Bierre’s visit underscores Denmark’s strong support for Ukraine.
He informed the minister that Ukraine is actively working to meet the requirements for EU membership. Specifically, Ukraine has completed five rounds of screening with the European Commission under Cluster 1, “Fundamentals,” and has begun work on Cluster 2, “Internal Market.”
Stefanchuk emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to aligning its legislation with EU standards. He expressed optimism that Denmark’s presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2025 would provide additional momentum toward Ukraine’s full membership in the EU.
Stefanchuk thanked Denmark for its comprehensive support — military, financial, humanitarian, and political — noting the approval of the 22nd military aid package by the Danish Parliament in November. Stefanchuk also praised the “Danish model” of purchasing weapons from Ukrainian manufacturers, which strengthens both Ukraine’s defense capabilities and its economy.
Stefanchuk also underscored Ukraine’s reliance on Denmark’s support in enhancing sanctions pressure on Russia and accelerating the adoption of the 15th EU sanctions package. He stressed the importance of including measures in this package to prevent Russia from circumventing existing restrictions.
