Rada adopts law on compensation for IDPs for destroyed housing

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted a law on the priority right of certain categories of internally displaced persons to receive compensation for destroyed real estate under the eRestoration program.

This was reported by MP from the Voice parliamentary faction Yaroslav Zhelezniak in Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

Legislative initiative No. 11028 was supported by 288 votes of MPs.

The document amends the laws of Ukraine “On Compensation for Damage and Destruction of Certain Categories of Real Estate as a Result of Hostilities, Terrorist Acts, Sabotage Caused by the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, and the State Register of Property Damaged and Destroyed as a Result of Hostilities, Terrorist Acts, Sabotage Caused by the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine” and “On Ensuring the Rights and Freedoms of Internally Displaced Persons.”

The amendments provide for the priority right to receive compensation for destroyed housing under the Restoration Program for IDPs who:

  • have reached retirement age;
  • have a dependent child under the age of six;
  • are raising a child under the age of 14 without a spouse.

In particular, for the second reading, the lawmakers expanded the list. From now on, it also includes IDPs:

  • Those who have two or more dependent children;
  • single mothers (fathers) raising a young child without a father (mother);
  • persons with disabilities of the third group;
  • have a dependent child under the age of six, are adoptive parents, guardians or custodians of a child, foster parents, foster parents or foster parents;
  • have a dependent child with a serious illness.

It is expected that the adoption and implementation of the law will strengthen state support for internally displaced persons for the duration of martial law.

As reported by Ukrinform, on November 20, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on ensuring the housing rights of IDPs, which provides for the creation of an information database of real estate for IDPs.
