Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine has lost 145 artists and 95 media workers.
As reported by Ukrinform, this was stated by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
“These figures are not just about the scale of losses but also serve as a reminder of the tragic pages of our history. Just as Stalin’s regime annihilated a generation of Ukrainian artists in the 1920s and early 1930s, Russia is now deliberately destroying Ukraine’s cultural elite,” the statement reads.
The Ministry also reported that during the war, seven foreign journalists who covered events in Ukraine for international audiences were killed.
Journalists working in Ukraine are creating vital news, investigations, and reports under high-risk conditions. They are tirelessly collecting indisputable evidence of crimes committed by the Russian forces and showcasing the bravery and resilience of the Ukrainian defenders.
The Ministry emphasized that Russia’s systematic crimes against journalists and the media pose a serious threat to freedom of speech, informational security, democratic values, and human rights.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian war photographer and cameraman Ruslan Hanushchak, call sign Ostap, was killed in action.
