Ukraine is working to increase the number of modern air defense systems that can shoot down ballistic missiles, as well as to ensure that the army can actively act against launchers on Russian territory.
According to Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky said this in a video message.
“Today, after a missile strike on Kyiv, the debris was being cleared all day. It was completed only in the evening. Work is underway in Zaporizhzhia to find a person under the rubble. Rescuers are now working at the site of the missile attack in Kharkiv region. Everyone who suffered from these strikes is being provided with the necessary assistance,” the Head of State noted.

The President also expressed gratitude to all the doctors, employees of the State Emergency Service, utilities, and police involved in the rescue efforts. “Unfortunately, these missiles took lives. There are victims in both Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia. My condolences to all the families and friends,” he added.
Zelensky also emphasized that the strikes were, in particular, ballistic missiles. “We are constantly working for more air defense systems for Ukraine – modern systems that can shoot down such ballistics. And we are working to ensure that our Ukrainian army can actively act against enemy launchers, particularly on Russian territory,” he emphasized.
The Head of State thanked all the partners who support Ukraine in this regard.
“Our long-range capability is one of the key tools for protecting lives. I am grateful to all our soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, the Foreign Intelligence Service, who provide the necessary range for us, for all Ukrainians, including our own forces. Every night you can see how the war is coming home – quite rightly, thanks to our drones and missiles – to Russian military facilities,” the President emphasized.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, three people were killed and three others injured in Kyiv as a result of a Russian missile strike on the morning of January 18.
In the morning of January 18, Russian troops also attacked Zaporizhzhia with two missiles. An industrial enterprise was hit, and about 20 multi-storey buildings were damaged. Ten people were injured, two of them seriously. In the evening, rescuers unblocked the body of a dead man from the rubble.
In the evening of January 18, the Russian military attacked Kharkiv and Chuhuiv districts, the consequences of the shelling are being established.
