Seven more Russian soldiers involved in the shootings of civilians in Bucha, Kyiv region, will be brought to criminal responsibility.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Communication Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
“Police investigators notified five Russian soldiers of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war, combined with the intentional killing of civilians. In addition, the police completed a pre-trial investigation against two occupants for the murder of a civilian, and the indictment was sent to court,” the statement said.
As noted, during the pre-trial investigation, police found that two servicemen of the 6th Air Assault Company of the 234th Air Assault Regiment opened fire on a local man who was looking for food near a supermarket. The victim received four gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen and died on the spot.
Investigators also proved that the commander of the unit – the commander of a combat vehicle of the 4th Airborne Assault Company of the 2nd Battalion Tactical Group of the Russian Federation of the same regiment – shot a patriotic couple who spoke only Ukrainian with the Russians.
“The occupiers forbade the neighbors to bury the dead, arguing that they were ‘Banderites’ and not worthy of burial. Instead, their bodies were burned,” the National Police added.
It is also noted that the deputy commander of the 3rd parachute company of the 1st battalion tactical group of the 234th airborne assault regiment, together with the platoon commander, shot a man whose phone allegedly contained evidence of the transfer of data on the movement of Russian troops to the Ukrainian military. After killing the unarmed local resident, the Russians told witnesses that another unit would have shot them all for this.
According to the police, a mechanic-driver of the same unit of the 234th Air Assault Regiment put a gun to the woman’s head and threatened to shoot her when she asked the Russians not to shoot because of the presence of civilians in the city. She survived because she had witnesses to the incident.
Based on the evidence collected, the police found that all the victims were civilians and did not have weapons.
Police investigators served five Russian soldiers with a notice of suspicion of violating the laws and customs of war, combined with the intentional killing of civilians (Part 1, 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The defendants face life imprisonment for their crimes.
As Ukrinform previously reported, the National Police served a notice of suspicion to the commander of Russian paratroopers involved, according to the investigation, in the shootings of people at the corner of Vokzalna and Yablunska streets in Bucha.
