The Romanian Foreign Ministry has reaffirmed its steadfast support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity following controversial statements by Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu.
The ministry published its statement on the social media platform X, emphasizing Romania’s clear and principled stance, Ukrinform reports.
“The Romanian Foreign Ministry strongly reiterates Romania’s steadfast position in support of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. This position is clear and rooted in international law, national interest and a long-lasting values-based foreign policy,” the statement reads.
Georgescu recently referred to Ukraine as a “fictional state” and suggested that its territories would eventually be divided among neighboring countries.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned these remarks, stating that they violate Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
