U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that “a lot of progress” has been made regarding Ukraine and Russia, while expressing interest in reaching an agreement with Kyiv for access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals.
He made these remarks during a meeting with journalists, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“We made a lot of progress on Russia, Ukraine. We’ll see what happens. We’re going to stop that ridiculous war,” Trump said after signing an executive order appointing Keith Kellogg as Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia.
At the same time, he expressed interest in reaching an agreement with Ukraine to gain access to the country’s rare earth materials as a condition for continuing U.S. support for its war against Russia.
“We’re putting in hundreds of billions of dollars. They have great rare earth. And I want security of the rare earth, and they’re willing to do it,” Trump said.
