Brigadier General Hennadii Shapovalov has announced his departure from the position of commander of the Operational Command South.
He made this statement on the command’s official Facebook page, Ukrinform reports.
Shapovalov said that it was an honor to lead the forces of the Operational Command South – a strong military unit that has courageously defended Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty on all fronts since the first days of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
“I am proud to have been part of this well-coordinated and motivated team of professional leaders, true warriors, and dedicated patriots of Ukraine! I am grateful to each and every one of you for your dedication, resilience, conscientious service, and fruitful cooperation in defending the Ukrainian state,” the general said.
Shapovalov had held the post since April 2024.
On January 19, 2025, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Brigadier General Shapovalov would take on a new role in Wiesbaden, where he will be responsible for coordinating security assistance to Ukraine.
