Deputy Minister of Justice Iryna Mudra of Ukraine praised major progress made in drawing up the main legal text of the Special Tribunal, achieved at the 13th meeting of the Core Group held in Brussels.

She stated this at the final press conference with the participation of the leadership of the European Commission and the Council of Europe, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“I am pleased to announce that after two days of very productive discussions here in Brussels, we have outlined the key elements of the draft Schuman Statute, the main legal text of the tribunal. This is an important achievement and a significant breakthrough, building on the results of the previous 12 meetings, especially the progress made last year in Riga and Vienna,” Mudra noted.

She added that the Core Group had been working hard for two years to develop a special solution for this “extremely important and sensitive issue.”

Mudra noted that the global order based on the norms of international law is in mortal danger as impunity only emboldens Russia.

“The gap in accountability for the crime of aggression must be filled immediately. That is why Ukraine, 41 states, the European Union, and the Council of Europe have joined forces to establish a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine,” she recalled.

According to the Deputy Minister, Ukrainians are acting in the interests of the whole world, because they want no one else to become a victim of yet another imperial conquest.

“This is not just about Ukraine. It is about global justice and the message that we send to the world. That is why we want the special tribunal to be successful, and that is why we ask those who are interested in saving the world order to join us in serving justice,” she emphasized.

As reported, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe welcomed progress made in preparing the statute of the special tribunal for the Russian Federation.
