Congress to work with Trump’s team on continuing aid to Ukraine – Republican Congressman

American lawmakers will work with the current U.S. administration to continue providing aid to Ukraine and expect progress in this matter, as key figures in the new government support freedom and democracy worldwide.

Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, Co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, said this in a comment to Ukrinform during the Ukrainian Week in Washington, D.C.

When asked about plans to push the Trump government to continue distributing aid to Ukraine, which had already been approved by Congress in 2024, Wilson stressed that Congress would indeed collaborate with the administration.

In this context, he expressed confidence that key appointees in the new team understood the necessity of supporting freedom and democracy. He noted that Marco Rubio, whose family fled from totalitarian Cuba — a Soviet Union colony — would not need any explanation about the potential consequences of failing to support Ukraine.

Wilson also noted that another senior official in Trump’s team, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, was a strong advocate for freedom and democracy. Additionally, he mentioned that former Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who had been appointed U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, shared similar views.

The congressman emphasized that the individuals appointed by President Trump were well-recognized friends of freedom and democracy worldwide.

He also spoke positively about the efforts of the new administration in Washington to resolve Russia’s war against Ukraine. Wilson said that President Trump was known for seeking agreements and expressed confidence that the current U.S. leader genuinely wanted to reduce violence and casualties, making every effort to achieve this. However, Wilson noted that all parties involved needed to engage in good-faith negotiations.

President Donald Trump confirmed on Tuesday that his administration was engaging in discussions with both the Russian side and Ukraine’s leadership in an effort to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
