Negotiations are underway with international partners to return USD 39 million seized in Switzerland to Ukraine.
The relevant statement was made by National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Director Semen Kryvonos at a press conference, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“A unique case is taking place right now; we have the opportunity to return USD 39 billion that had been seized in Switzerland. Right now we are in talks with our international partners. The NABU and the General Prosecutor’s Office have voiced their position here, took all measures for these assets to be returned to Ukraine. But, the position of the Government and Naftogaz is important. We hope that in the near future they will come together and support our position, and we will be able to return UAH 1.5 billion to Ukraine,” Kryvonos told.
At the same time, the NABU chief did not provide details on the proceedings or individuals involved in the case.
A reminder that, according to National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Director Semen Kryvonos, last year detectives brought 113 accusations to court, of which 10 were related to Ukrainian Members of Parliament, five – members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and their deputies, nine – judges, seven – category ‘A’ government officials, and four – prosecutors.
Following the completed investigations, more than UAH 26 billion worth of losses were established. The assets worth UAH 6.8 billion were seized, and civil lawsuits were filed for another UAH 23 billion. A total of UAH 304 million was returned to the state.
