Norway has announced the transfer of additional air defense equipment worth NOK 1.2 billion (about $107 million) to Ukraine.
The Norwegian Ministry of Defense announced this on social media platform X, Ukrinform reports.
“We are providing new air defence for 1.2 billion NOK, purchased via JUMPSTART, to protect Ukraine’s people and infrastructure,” the post reads.
According to the Norwegian MoD, during a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group on Wednesday, Norwegian Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik emphasized that air defense is Ukraine’s highest priority military need and is crucial for protecting both military and civilian infrastructure. These funds are part of NOK 22.5 billion (about $2 billion) that will be spent on military support for Ukraine in 2025 under the Nansen Support Programme.
Last year, Norway allocated more than NOK 6 billion (over $532 million) for Ukraine’s air defense.
In addition, Norway will join the “drone coalition” operating within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group by allocating $50 million.
As Ukrinform reported, Defense Minister of Ukraine Rustem Umerov and Norwegian Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik discussed the supply of equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the potential for collaborative projects, including ammunition production.
On February 12, a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group was held in Brussels with the participation of NATO and Ukrainian defense ministers.
