Overnight, on February 13, drones targeted sites in Lipetsk and Lipetsk region (Russia), reportedly aiming at the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant and the Transneft Baltika distribution station.
This was reported by the BBC Russian Service, as per Ukrinform.
Lipetsk Governor Igor Artamonov stated in the morning that the region had suffered a massive drone attack and that air defense systems were active. Shortly afterward, he reported power outages in several districts of Lipetsk, though electricity was later restored.
According to the Telegram channel Mash, 12 explosions were heard in the industrial area of Lipetsk. Local residents reported hearing drones buzzing and explosions starting 3:30 in the town of Yelets. Mash also shared a video, allegedly filmed by locals, featuring air raid sirens and explosions.
Another Russian Telegram channel, SHOT, confirmed that drones likely targeted the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant.
Later, Governor Artamonov reported that debris from downed drones damaged two private houses, though no casualties were reported. However, an employee at the Lipetsk aeration station (a wastewater treatment facility) was injured.
The aeration station is located in the same industrial zone in southern Lipetsk as the Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant, according to reports.
SHOT also reported that a Ukrainian drone was shot down over the Transneft Baltika distribution station in the village of Pes, Khvoyninsky District. The drone was allegedly attempting to disrupt oil transportation in the Novgorod region, where crude oil is transported for export.
Preliminary reports suggest the drone was a ‘Liutyi’ (Fierce) model, equipped with a KZ-6 shaped charge warhead. However, after being neutralized, no explosion or fire occurred, and no casualties or damage were reported.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that 83 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight across nine Russian regions: Bryansk region – 37 drones, Kursk and Lipetsk regions – 12 drones each, Tver region – nine drones, Belgorod, Kaluga, Smolensk, Voronezh, and Rostov regions – an unspecified number.
As usual, the ministry did not disclose the total number of drones launched or the full extent of the damage.
The Governor of Bryansk, Alexander Bogomaz, stated in the morning that no casualties or destruction were reported. Meanwhile, Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev confirmed that multiple drones were downed over the region. He also reported gas pipeline damage and shattered windows in private homes due to falling debris.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Ukraine was also targeted by Russian drone attacks overnight, with air raid alerts declared in multiple regions.
