Sanctions against Ihor Kolomoisky, Hennadiy Boholyubov, Kostyantyn Zhevago, Petro Poroshenko and Viktor Medvedchuk, introduced by the National Security and Defense Council today, include asset freezes, prevention of capital withdrawal from Ukraine, a ban on defense procurement, land acquisition, etc.

According to Ukrinform, this was stated on television by the spokesman for the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), Artem Dekhtyarenko.

“We are talking about blocking assets, preventing the withdrawal of capital from Ukraine, a ban on defense procurement, a ban on land acquisition, deprivation of state awards and other sanctions. All of them are listed in the President’s decree, and I want to emphasize that these restrictions have been introduced indefinitely,” Dekhtyarenko said.

Answering the question how the criminal proceedings opened against the above-mentioned persons affected the imposition of sanctions, the spokesman said: “The pre-trial investigation of these cases is carried out not only by the Security Service of Ukraine, but also by other law enforcement or anti-corruption agencies. As for the criminal cases being investigated by the SSU, for example, you know that Poroshenko and Medvedchuk were previously served with a notice of suspicion of treason, assistance to a terrorist organization and other articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. According to the investigation, while acting as President, the high-ranking official [Poroshenko] made Ukraine energy dependent on Russia and the leaders of the pseudo-republics controlled by it. Also, based on the SSU materials, Kolomoisky was notified of suspicion of legalization of illegally obtained funds, seizure of other people’s property, etc.”

Dekhtyarenko also noted that pre-trial investigations in the criminal proceedings are ongoing, and new details of the investigation will be announced when they become available.
