Ukraine, New Zealand defense ministers discuss defense industry investments

At the Munich Security Conference, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with New Zealand’s Defense Minister Judith Collins to discuss potential New Zealand investments in Ukraine’s defense industry.

Umerov shared details of the meeting on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

“Started work at the Munich Security Conference. The first meeting was with New Zealand’s Minister of Defense, Judith Collins,” Umerov wrote.

The two ministers addressed global security challenges, with Umerov emphasizing that Russia’s aggression has changed the security environment not only in Europe but also in the Asia-Pacific region.

“Authoritarian regimes are growing more confident, and the free world must clearly demonstrate that new aggressions are unacceptable,” Umerov said.

He also thanked New Zealand for its continued support of Ukraine, particularly for its contribution to the Drone Capability Coalition, despite the vast geographical distance.

Umerov and Collins also discussed opportunities for attracting New Zealand investments into the development of Ukraine’s defense industry through mechanisms like the “Danish model.”

“We seek to expand defense cooperation, including through consultations and experience exchange. Ukraine is ready to share technologies and knowledge of modern warfare,” Umerov added.

He expressed gratitude to Collins for a productive discussion and New Zealand’s support.
