In January 2025, Ukraine’s gross domestic product grew by 1.5% compared to 1.7% in December 2024.
That’s according to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.
“In January 2025, the Ukrainian economy grew by 1.5%. The growth drivers remain the construction industry, manufacturing, and domestic trade,” said Deputy Minister of Economy Oleksii Sobolev.
He noted that the slowdown in economic growth in January was due to a decline in exporters’ activity. However, high budget financing compensated for the temporary drop in exports of goods.
It is noted that the key growth factors included the restoration of damaged critical infrastructure, major reconstruction and repair of roads in emergency areas, and housing construction. In addition, purchases of domestic defense products remained high, which stimulated an increase in production in the machine building sector.
At the same time, agriculture saw a decline in livestock production due to higher production costs. The mining and transportation sectors also experienced a decline due to the shutdown of mines in the Donetsk region and disruptions in electricity supply following significant missile attacks.
The ministry recalled that the GDP growth forecast included in the 2025 budget is 2.7% for the year.
As Ukrinform reported, the World Bank (WB) forecasts that Ukraine’s GDP will grow to 2% by the end of this year.
