Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly stated that she wants her country to play a role in maintaining peace in Ukraine after Russia’s war ends.
This was reported by National Post, as cited by Ukrinform.
Joly said that the war in Ukraine cannot end on terms that would allow Russia to continue destabilizing Europe. According to her, Canada wants to help ensure a lasting peace, especially after Washington sent mixed signals about whether U.S. troops could help enforce a peace agreement.
“We want to be part of these conversations regarding security guarantees. We want to be part of conversations linked to more Canadians being involved in protecting Ukraine,” Joly said.
She also added that Canada continues to urge the United States to include Ukraine in any peace negotiations.
As Ukrinform previously reported, Canada will allocate 15 million Canadian dollars (approximately 11.7 million USD) for demining operations in Ukraine.
