Ukraine’s Ambassador to the UK and former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, has said that he will be ready to answer questions about elections once Ukraine endures and preserves its statehood.
He stated during the “Dialogues with NV: Ukraine Changes the World” event, according to Ukrinform.
When asked about his potential participation in future elections, Zaluzhnyi said: “In order to answer that question, let’s first create the conditions where such questions are entirely appropriate. I believe that when those conditions arise, I, as someone serving the state and working directly for it, will be ready to answer such questions,” Zaluzhnyi said.
“For now, we have one task: to endure and preserve the state. After that, we will think about other matters,” he added.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated at the Munich Security Conference that Ukrainians do not want elections before the war ends, as the country still faces the threat of full occupation by Russia.
On February 19, following U.S.-Russia negotiations in Saudi Arabia, U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his position on the need for elections in Ukraine.
