Austria adheres to the position that there can be no negotiations to end Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine without the participation of Ukraine itself, and peace must be fair and not imposed on Ukrainians.
This was reported in an exclusive comment to Ukrinform’s own correspondent by the Federal Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs of Austria.
“February 24 marks three years since Russian President Putin unleashed a brutal war of aggression against Ukraine for no reason, in violation of international law. Like any war, this one must also end at the negotiating table. For Austria, it is clear that this should not be a peace imposed on Ukraine. It should be a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace based on international law,” the ministry said.
The Austrian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Ukraine should decide for itself when and under what conditions peace will come as a result of the negotiations.
“It is up to Ukrainians to decide when and how this will happen. No talks about Ukraine without Ukraine,” the ministry said of Austria’s position on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine amid active US efforts in this direction.
As reported by Ukrinform, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said that US President Donald Trump intends to “very quickly” advance the process of negotiations to end the war and establish peace in Ukraine and is taking all steps to facilitate the settlement process.
On Tuesday, February 18, the US delegation and representatives of the aggressor country, Russia, held talks in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
