The next, third, group of Ukrainian Legion volunteers will sign contracts with the Ukrainian Armed Forces on February 28. It is expected that this time their number will be higher than during the previous two waves.

This was stated by Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasyl Bodnar in a comment to Ukrinform.

“Today we continue to collect applications for service in the Ukrainian Legion. We are planning another contract signing on February 28,” Bodnar said.

The Ukrainian diplomat emphasized that the number of those who will sign contracts is expected to increase compared to the previous two waves.

“We expect it to be more, because there are more applications and more people ready to sign contracts,” the Ukrainian diplomat said.

He added that the volunteers who had previously signed contracts are currently undergoing training in Poland or Ukraine.

According to the ambassador, most of the volunteers are Ukrainians living in Poland. However, there are also people from many other countries, including Italy, Spain, Estonia, the Netherlands and others.

As Ukrinform reported, the creation of the Ukrainian Legion became known in early July, when President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a security agreement in Warsaw. One of its points is the training of Ukrainian military units in Poland.

Volunteers from the Ukrainian Legion can sign a contract for a year, three years, or until the end of a special period. After signing contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian Legion members are sent to one of the training grounds near Lublin for training. The training is conducted by instructors from NATO countries at a designated location. After that, soldiers who need separate training in their chosen specialization can undergo additional training in other places.

Under the bilateral agreement, the Ukrainian side provides the Legion volunteers with military uniforms and medicines, while the Polish side provides the appropriate infrastructure, equipment and weapons for the training period.

The first group of Ukrainian Legion volunteers signed contracts with the Ukrainian Armed Forces in November, and the second group in December.
