U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the war in Ukraine is terrible and that he and the whole world are stuck with it. That is why he emphasized the need to sit down at the negotiating table to end it.
He said this on Friday during a meeting with governors at the White House, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“This war is terrible. It would have never happened if I were president, but it did happen,” Trump said.
He recalled the destroyed cities in Ukraine and the demolished “thousand-year-old golden domes” that were the most beautiful in the world, and stressed that millions of people were killed.
“We’re negotiating with Russia, Ukraine, trying to get that horrible situation over with. It’s terrible,” Trump noted.
He stressed that thousands of young soldiers are being killed in the war every week, and this, in his words, is bad for Russia, Ukraine, and the United States on a humanitarian basis.
“I’ve had very good talks with Putin, and I’ve had not such good talks with Ukraine. They don’t have any cards, but they play it tough,” the U.S. President said.
He also emphasized that “we’re not going to let this continue” and stated that it is necessary to sit down at the negotiating table to end the war.
As reported by Ukrinform, U.S. President Donald Trump said that there was no need for President Volodymyr Zelensky to participate in talks on ending the war with Russia.
