Ukraine’s air defenses down 87 Russian drones overnight

On the night of February 20-21, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 87 drones launched by Russian forces in a massive air assault on Ukraine.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Telegram, as per Ukrinform.

Starting 19:00 on Thursday, February 20, Russian invaders attacked Ukraine with 160 Shahed-type strike drones and various types of decoy drones from the directions of: Oryol, Bryansk, Kursk, Millerovo, Shatalovo, and also launched two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles at Odesa region from temporarily occupied Crimea.

The attack was repelled by aviation, air defense missile units, electronic warfare (EW) units, and mobile fire teams.

By 8:00 on Friday, February 21, as many as 87 drones of various types have been confirmed as downed in Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

Additionally, 70 Russian decoy drones were lost from radar detection without causing damage.

Strikes were reported in Odesa, Kyiv, Poltava, and Kharkiv regions.

According to earlier reports, Ukraine’s air defense also shot down seven Shahed drones over Sumy region.
