Polish President Andrzej Duda met with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Saturday, where he shared his perspective on the war in Ukraine.
Speaking to Poland’s Republika TV, Duda emphasized the importance of preventing a Russian victory, Ukrinform reports.
“I presented my point of view and my assessment of those who will need to be negotiated with, so that President [Trump] remembers that Russia’s leader is a KGB officer,” Duda said.
The Polish leader stressed that Russia must not be allowed to win the war against Ukraine. He noted that during their conversation, Trump underlined that he “must negotiate because he clearly sees himself as the only leader in the world capable of doing so.”
“He told me several times that he must negotiate and end this war — so that people stop dying and Ukraine can return to normal life. He was talking about the people all the time,” Duda said.
Duda also added that Trump intends to visit Poland soon, possibly in connection with either the Three Seas Initiative summit in late April or the NATO summit in June.
He stated that Trump assured him the U.S. has no plans to reduce its military presence in Poland — on the contrary, it may even increase it.
