European Council President convenes special summit on Ukraine

President of the European Council António Costa has announced an emergency summit of EU leaders on Thursday, March 6.

Costa announced this on social media platform X, according to Ukrinform.

“I have decided to convene a special European Council on 6 March. We are living a defining moment for Ukraine and European security. In my consultations with European leaders, I’ve heard a shared commitment to meet those challenges at EU level: strengthening European Defense and contributing decisively to peace on our continent and long-term security of Ukraine,” Costa wrote.

He also mentioned that he will continue to work together with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

“All Member States to be ready to take decisions on 6 March,” Costa emphasized.

As Ukrinform previously reported, António Costa, together with Ursula von der Leyen, is scheduled to visit the Ukrainian capital on February 24, marking the third anniversary of the full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine.
