The Kursk operation of the Defense Forces allowed full-scale combat operations to be transferred to the territory of Russia and forced the enemy to redeploy the most capable military units from other directions. Six months after its launch, this operation has not lost its significance.
This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi at the forum “Ukraine. Year 2025” forum, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“One of the asymmetrical steps of the Ukrainian Defense Forces was the Kursk operation. It not only destroyed the plans of the Russian offensive in Sumy region and [began] the creation of a “security zone” there, but for the first time we moved full-scale hostilities to the territory of Russia, forced the enemy to transfer the most combat-ready military units from other directions. And today, 6 months after its start, the Kursk operation has not lost its significance. We continue to keep under control several hundred square kilometers of Russian territory, destroying not only the Russian but also the North Korean army there,” Syrskyi emphasized.
He added that there are many challenges ahead, but Ukraine has a capable army that continues to fight.
“We are aware that we will face difficult times and new challenges ahead, but we have the main thing – a capable army that will continue to fight, and we have a vision of how to survive and win a just peace for Ukraine,” emphasized Syrskyi.
As Ukrinform reported, the total losses of Russian troops in the Kursk region have already exceeded 48 thousand servicemen, about 20,000 of whom have been eliminated.
