President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that any agreement between Ukraine and the United States regarding the use of Ukrainian natural resources must include clear security guarantees from the U.S.

He made this statement at the “Ukraine. Year 2025” forum, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

Zelensky emphasized that he would like to reach an understanding with President Trump regarding what security guarantees Ukraine needs in order to be in a strong position at the negotiation table to end the war.

“Security guarantees can also come in the form of economic agreements, as widely discussed in the media. But not just any economic agreement — it must be an agreement between our countries as part of security guarantees. That is why this agreement (on natural resources) must include what is currently missing — security guarantees that we will receive from the United States,” Zelensky said.

He added that in all of his communications with the U.S. side, he has been inviting President Trump to visit Ukraine.

“I would really like him to come, but so far, we haven’t succeeded in arranging this. However, whether he comes here (which would be preferable) or I visit Washington, it will be a meaningful discussion,” Zelensky noted.

As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that he is not ready to fix the amount of support from the United States at $100 billion, as this sum includes grants provided to Ukraine. He also emphasized that grants are not a debt.
