President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine’s NATO membership, as the most cost-effective security guarantee, will definitely be on the table in negotiations on ending the war.
He made this statement at the forum “Ukraine. Year 2025”, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
Commenting on security guarantees, Zelensky once again emphasized that he considers Ukraine’s NATO membership to be the most affordable option.
“Because in any case, whether someone wants it or not, whether they support this idea or not, this topic is on the table, and it will be on the table when discussing security guarantees and negotiations. I don’t know how the negotiations will end in any format or under any circumstances, but this issue will be there, and we will likely discuss it with our partners,” the President said.
According to him, it is very important for everyone to understand that this is “not a negotiation table that Ukraine is being invited to.”
“This is our table, and I believe that is the most important thing because the war is in Ukraine. It is we who invite, first and foremost, our European leaders because the war is in Ukraine, and we are an integral part of the continent of Europe. Therefore, Europe must be at this negotiation table,” the head of state emphasized.
He stressed that it is only fair for Europe to be represented at the negotiation table beyond just the European Union.
“For example, the UK — our strong partners, can we proceed without them? … The United States must be there because it is our main donor in this war. … And our partners want Russia to be there, and Russia will be there. So this is how we see this negotiation table: Ukraine as part of Europe, Europe, the United States, and Russia. That’s approximately how we envision it,” Zelensky said.
As Ukrinform previously reported, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated on Saturday that President Trump is confident he could reach a deal with Russia to end the war in Ukraine as soon as next week.
