The Naftogaz Group will receive funding from Norway for gas purchases, with the funds being provided through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
Ukrinform reports this citing the Naftogaz press service.
“This assistance is critically important for the stability of Ukraine’s energy system. I am grateful to Norway and the EBRD for their continued support and commitment to helping our country,” said Roman Chumak, CEO of Naftogaz Group.
The funding is part of a larger aid package aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy security. In total, Norway is allocating approximately €380 million to support gas procurement, powergrid restoration, emergency generators, and nuclear safety initiatives.
“In addition to weapons and ammunition, what Ukraine needs most urgently is energy support. In Kyiv, people often have no access to electricity for many hours a day, which has a significant impact on their daily lives. Energy support, including funding for the purchase of gas, is therefore an important component of Norway’s assistance,” Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store stated.
As previously reported, the European Commission will help Ukraine to finance gas purchases through the Ukraine Facility in cooperation with international partners.
