Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has listed three immediate steps the European Union should take to enhance its assistance to Ukraine.

He shared his appeal on the social media platform X, according to Ukrinform.

“First, on Ukraine: use frozen Russian assets immediately to support Ukraine’s military; provide €20bn in additional defense aid, as proposed by Ursula von der Leyen; discuss a European peacemaker force,” the Lithuanian President wrote.

Nausėda also outlined actions the EU should take for itself.

Second, on the EU: member states to invest more in defense; strengthen our defense industry significantly; more funds for Andrius Kubilius portfolio; joint projects with the UK and Norway,” he added.

Nausėda noted that he would discuss these issues with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on March 2 and with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday.

“This leads to a special European Council on March 6, where important decisions must be made!” he concluded.

As reported by Ukrinform, Lithuania raised over €5.7 million through the Radarom! solidarity campaign marking the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The funds will be used to supply Ukraine with drones and anti-drone systems.
