Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has responded to comments from Republican Senator Lindsey Graham who called for his resignation, stating that such decisions are made by the people of Ukraine.
Zelensky said this during an interview with Fox News on Friday, according to Ukrinform.
“I don’t know if he [Senator Graham] will be happy with my words, but only the people of Ukraine can make this decision,” Zelensky said.
He stressed that in the United States, the president is elected by its own voters, just as it happens in any civilized country, including in Europe.
Senator Graham criticized Zelensky on Friday over his stance on Russia and Vladimir Putin during negotiations with Donald Trump. The senator stated that the Ukrainian president “either needs to resign and send somebody over that we can do business with, or he needs to change.” Meanwhile, Democrats in Congress have voiced their support for President Zelensky.
