Zelensky, Starmer meet in London

A meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has begun in London.

According to Sky News, the Ukrainian leader arrived at 10 Downing Street on Saturday evening around 19:30 Kyiv time.

Starmer made a symbolic gesture by walking a few meters outside to personally greet Zelensky and embrace him before they shook hands for the cameras and entered the building.

“You have full backing across the United Kingdom. We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes. I hope, you’ve heard that cheering in the street – people are coming out to demonstrate how much they support you and how much they support Ukraine. We have unwavering determination to stand with you and achieve what we both want to achieve, which is a lasting peace for Ukraine based on sovereignty and security. This is so important for Ukraine, for Europe and for the United Kingdom,” Keir Starmer stated.

In his turn, Volodymyr Zelensky said that he is so happy to be in the UK. “I saw a lot of people outside, and I want to thank you and people of the United Kingdom for such big support from the very beginning of this war… We are very happy in Ukraine to have such strategic partners. We count on your support,” the Ukrainian President added.

Zelensky also expressed his anticipation of meeting King Charles III on Sunday.

Zelensky’s trip to the UK is part of his broader diplomatic efforts to secure continued military and financial aid. The meeting comes ahead of a European leaders’ summit in London on Sunday, where security guarantees for Ukraine will be a key topic of discussion.
