The UK, together with France, will work with Ukraine on a ceasefire plan, which will then be discussed with the U.S.
That’s according to the BBC, Ukrinform reports.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his conversations with Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Trump, and French President Emmanuel Macron have led to an agreement that the UK – along with France and “possibly one or two others” – will work with Ukraine on a “plan to stop the fighting and then we’ll discuss that plan with the United States”.
“I think we’ve got a step in the right direction”, Starmer told the BBC.
Commenting on the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on February 28, Starmer noted that “nobody wants to see this.”
He said that after the meeting between the Ukrainian and American leaders, he called Trump and Zelensky because he believes that “the focus has to be a lasting peace in Ukraine,” which the British prime minister called “very important” for the security and defense of Europe and the United Kingdom.
Starmer also recalled Zelensky’s visit to Downing Street on March 1, and also reported on conversations with French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Donald Trump after the meeting with the Ukrainian leader.
“And the purpose, or my driving purpose, has been to bridge this, if you like, and get us back to the central focus,” he noted.
The British prime minister also expressed confidence that the U.S. president wants lasting peace.
“I am clear in my mind that he (Trump – ed.) wants lasting peace, that comes from my discussions with him,” Starmer said, agreeing with the American leader’s position.
As Ukrinform reported, on Saturday in London, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed steps to end the war with a just peace, security guarantees, and specific steps to strengthen Ukraine’s positions.
