As part of the LMM-RapidRanger joint project with the United Kingdom, Ukraine will receive 5,000 high-precision LMM interceptor missiles, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

In a post on Facebook, Umerov announced that during the Ukrainian delegation’s visit to the UK, led by President Volodymyr Zelensky, a strategic agreement was reached to launch this large-scale project to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses, Ukrinform reports.

Under this initiative, Ukraine will receive over 5,000 LMM (Lightweight Multirole Missile) interceptor missiles and associated launchers.

“LMM are high-precision interceptor missiles that effectively destroy Shahed drones. They have already proven their effectiveness in combat from 2022 to 2024,” Umerov said.

He emphasized that this agreement is one of the largest in Ukraine’s history in the field of security and defense.

The GBP 1.6 billion project aims to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense by 2030 and is financed through a loan guaranteed by the UK Export Finance (UKEF) agency.

“We are implementing this project together with the British company Thales, Ukrainian enterprises, and the UK government,” Umerov said.

He also said that in addition to supplying weaponry, the intergovernmental agreement provides for the localization of production and technology transfer, enhancing Ukraine’s strategic independence in air defense.

He expressed gratitude to the UK government and international partners for their continued support.
