Russian bomb hits checkpoint in Kherson region killing police officer

On March 3, 2025, a Russian guided aerial bomb struck a checkpoint in Beryslav district of Kherson region resulting in the death of a Ukrainian police officer on duty.

The National Police reported this, as cited by Ukrinform.

According to the report, the Russian forces launched four guided aerial bombs at the area. One of them landed near a checkpoint where Senior Sergeant Serhii Vakulin was on duty. The explosion caused fatal injuries to the officer.

Serhii Vakulin served in the Response Sector of the Patrol Police, Department No. 2 of the Kakhovka District Police.

He was born in Hornostaivka, a village on the Russian-occupied left bank of Kherson region.

“Since 1998, he had served with honor in law enforcement. Tragically, today’s airstrike claimed his life. He will forever remain 46 years old,” the National Police stated.

Vakulin leaves behind a wife and a minor son.

As previously reported, during the evacuation of a civilian casualty in the village of Kozatske, Kherson region, three Ukrainian police officers were wounded.
