On March 7, a rally in support of Ukraine was held on Malostranská Square in Prague.
This was reported by Radio Prague International, Ukrinform reports.
Hundreds of people came to express support for the country, which is opposing the Russian invasion.
As noted, the participants of the rally, organized by the Million Moments for Democracy movement, held the flags of Ukraine, the European Union and the Czech Republic. The rally was monitored by police officers.
During the rally, a performance took place: two participants with portraits of US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin played cards on stage. This was a reference to the American leader’s statement during a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky on February 28 that “Ukraine has no cards to play,” to which Zelensky responded: “I did not come to play cards.”
The organizers also prepared posters in the form of playing cards with the words “Endurance” on them. Other participants held posters with inscriptions in English and Czech: “Putin is the problem”, ‘Americans against Trump’, ‘Putin and Trump are not playing for Europe – let’s defend our freedom’, ‘Wake up America’ and ‘Occupation is not peace’ in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
Lukasz Hilpert, the head of the Million Moments for Democracy, emphasized that Europe “should not stand by and wait” – politicians should support Ukraine and clearly show that they stand for a united Europe.
Vladimir Votapek, a security expert from the Czech opposition party Pirates, said that Europe had been neglecting its own security for decades and was traveling “like a stowaway on a train pulled by an American locomotive.” At the same time, everyone refused to see Russia’s growing power and aggressiveness, Votapek emphasized.
Europe adheres to the civilized values that emerged after World War II, but it cannot ignore the rise to power of two political adventurers, said Michal Kocab, a musician and former advisor to President Vaclav Havel. In his opinion, the next Czech government should not get closer to the position of the governments of Robert Fico in Slovakia and Viktor Orban in Hungary. “If this happens – and we cannot rule it out – we will think about leaving the European Union, because the EU cannot afford three countries that will create fundamental obstacles to its foreign policy towards Ukraine,” Kocab said.
According to him, the collapse of European unity could have fatal consequences.
As reported by Ukrinform, on February 28, the meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and the United States in the White House was ended early after disputes arose over the facts about the war in Ukraine, as well as the credibility of the words and agreements with Putin. At the same time, no agreement was signed between the countries related to mining.
Earlier this week, the media reported that the US president had ordered the suspension of all US military aid to Ukraine in order to force Kyiv to demonstrate a “good faith commitment” to peace. Later, the US administration confirmed that it had also frozen intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
