Hazardous substances released into Odesa air after Russian attack

On March 10, a significant amount of pollutants and combustion products were released into the air in Odesa as a result of the fire at fuel tanks and a children’s toy warehouse.

This was reported in Telegram by the Odesa City Council, Ukrinform reports.

According to the city council, as of 11.03.2025, 21 emergency incidents related to fires occurred in the region, including 5 in the city of Odesa.

“As a result of the fires, a significant amount of pollutants and combustion products were released into the air,” the statement said.

The mayor’s office also noted that until the air situation improves, it is recommended to stay outdoors if possible, or use a respirator, as well as close windows and doors at home to prevent smoke from entering the premises.

The Municipal Environmental Safety Center of the Odesa City Council and the Odesa Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine are currently monitoring the air quality, the results of which will be announced later.

According to the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the shelling damaged and destroyed a number of private company warehouses, fuel tanks, a business center, a garage and an outbuilding on the territory of a private household, and smashed windows in nearby private homes.

As reported by Ukrinform, in Odesa, as a result of a drone attack on the evening of March 10, fuel tanks and a warehouse with children’s toys caught fire and a private house was damaged.
