The Ministers of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko and Finland’s Mari Rantanen visited the Chornobyl exclusion zone, where the Finnish delegation saw the consequences of the Russian attack on the nuclear power plant and the liquidation measures.

According to Ukrinform, Klymenko posted this on Facebook and published a video.

“It took 490 hours to eliminate the consequences of the enemy drone attack on the shelter over the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, which took place on February 14. The rescuers worked in shifts to ensure the continuity of the work. It was an extremely difficult task, because it was not just about extinguishing the fire, but about the stability of the situation at the facility, which is of global importance for nuclear safety,” Klymenko said.

He informed that he and Rantanen had visited the Chornobyl exclusion zone “so that the partners could see with their own eyes the consequences of the enemy attack on the nuclear power plant, as well as the liquidation and safety measures there.”

Klymenko and Rantanen presented awards to the rescuers who showed extraordinary courage and dedication during these works at the Chornobyl NPP.

Klymenko also familiarized the Finnish delegation with the work of other bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Chornobyl zone.

According to him, the border guards are responsible for the protection of the state border in this area and the construction of engineering and fortification structures.

At the same time, the National Guard ensures the protection and defense of critical infrastructure facilities. To this end, it performs a number of tasks, Klymenko said.

The guards also work daily as part of mobile fire groups that strengthen the country’s air defense system.
