It cannot be ruled out that Russia may set its conditions for a ceasefire during negotiations with the American side.

This was stated by Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Oleksandr Merezhko in a comment to Ukrinform.

“During negotiations with the American side, representatives of the aggressor state may set their own demands for a temporary ceasefire. This could even include a demand for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Kursk region, as Putin needs to show that Russian territory is free from foreign forces before May 9,” he noted.

According to the politician, Putin will try to “liberate” Kursk to avoid losing his “authority” among the people, as “Victory Day celebrations would look strange if Russian land is still occupied by foreign forces.”

“In general, we cannot rule out that Russia will set its conditions for a ceasefire. This will likely be part of the negotiation process. I hope no agreements will be reached regarding the withdrawal of troops from Kursk and other territories that would contradict Ukraine’s interests,” the deputy emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported, on March 11, negotiations took place in Saudi Arabia between representatives of Ukraine and the United States. As a result, the Ukrainian delegation supported the U.S. proposal for a complete ceasefire for 30 days along the entire front line. This regime may be extended by mutual consent, provided Russia accepts and simultaneously implements it.

The Kremlin stated that they are waiting for details of the negotiations between the U.S. and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia.
