Sweden will procure and donate an additional 18 Archer artillery systems and five ARTHUR artillery radars to Ukraine as part of its 18th military aid package, valued at approximately $300 million.
Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson announced this on social media platform X, Ukrinform reports.
He noted that Sweden had previously provided Kyiv with eight Archer systems.
“They are appreciated by Ukraine and have done a good job at the front in delivering damage to the Russian occupiers. With a combination of speed, precision and mobility, Archers are a formidable weapon in Ukraine,” Jonson wrote.
The five ARTHUR systems will help detect artillery shells and calculate their place of origin.
“This will provide the position to friendly systems for counter battery fire. The Arthur system has previously been donated to Ukraine by Sweden and the United Kingdom,” Jonson said.
He added that according to open sources, Russia has lost over 437 towed artillery pieces, 869 self-propelled systems, and 451 multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS).
“This Swedish artillery package will hopefully boost those numbers further,” Jonson said.
He announced that Sweden would also enter the artillery coalition to coordinate and supply Ukraine’s defense forces with modern artillery systems, ammunition, and training.
“The long-term goal is to strengthen Ukraine’s artillery capability and increase interoperability with NATO,” Jonson added.
