Russian occupation forces have ramped up attempts to transfer military equipment to the western bank of the Oskil River in the Kupiansk sector.
Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Group of Forces, stated this on Ukrainian television, Ukrinform reports.
“Russian activity has increased in the Lyman and Kupiansk sectors. While the number of combat engagements remains statistically low, there are significant efforts by Russian forces to move equipment across the Oskil River. Essentially, the situation mirrors what we saw around January. The directions remain largely unchanged, though the intensity and weather conditions fluctuate. But overall, the situation remains unchanged,” Trehubov said.
He added that combat activity also remains high in the Novopavlivka, Kramatorsk, and Toretsk sectors, with the Pokrovsk sector currently witnessing the highest number of engagements.
“Notably, the situation in the Pokrovsk sector has noticeably improved for us and worsened for the Russians, despite it remaining their primary objective,” the spokesperson said.
When asked whether Russian forces have introduced any new tactical approaches in the Khortytsia Group of Forces’ area of responsibility, Trehubov said that no fundamental changes had been observed.
“Not really. So far, no ‘magic bullet’ or breakthrough tactic has been devised that could significantly alter the situation. There are some technical adaptations, such as roads being covered with drone netting. You may have also heard about the sharp increase in fiber-optic-controlled drones and new tactics where drones lie in wait near a target and take off only when needed to minimize response time. While these developments are noteworthy, they are not game-changers that could shift the course of battle or the war itself. It’s more of an ongoing evolution,” he concluded.
Ukrainian forces engaged in 112 skirmishes with Russian troops on March 16. In the Pokrovsk sector, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled 21 enemy assault and offensive operations.
