France and Germany have made their “useful contribution” to convincing President Volodymyr Zelensky, who made “a very right choice” by agreeing to President Donald Trump’s peace initiative for a 30-day ceasefire.

French President Emmanuel Macron said this following a meeting in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“It is the historic role of Germany, and France, and all of Europe to stand with Ukrainians. Recent discussions are moving in the right direction. And in this regard, thanks to our work with the UK and Germany, I believe we have made a useful contribution to convincing President Zelensky,” Macron said.

According to the French president, the Ukrainian leader made “a very right choice by having the courage to agree to Trump’s peace initiative” by agreeing to a 30-day ceasefire.

Macron also noted that only the first steps are being taken, but the goal must remain the same.

“To have a measured and monitored ceasefire that is fully respected, to start detailed and comprehensive peace negotiations that will lead to a solid and lasting peace and the guarantees that go with it,” he stressed, adding that, obviously, this is unthinkable without Ukrainians sitting at the negotiating table.
