In the Mykolaiv region, 90% of winter crops successfully endured the winter, while 10% are reported to be in a weakened or thinned condition.
Olena Piskun, Director of the Agricultural Sector Department at the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, shared this update with an Ukrinform correspondent.
“Last autumn, we laid a strong foundation for this year’s harvest by sowing 665,000 hectares of winter crops, including 522,000 hectares of grain and 143,200 hectares of rapeseed. By the time vegetation fully recovers, we anticipate that up to 10% of the crops might remain weak and thinned. Our efforts are currently focused on supporting these winter crops,” Piskun explained.
Looking ahead, spring sowing is planned across 722,000 hectares, with technical crops accounting for the largest share at 501,000 hectares. The remaining area includes 175,000 hectares of grain, 27,000 hectares dedicated to potatoes and vegetables, 2,900 hectares for food and melon crops, and 16,000 hectares for fodder crops.
The spring sowing campaign is already underway in the region, with farmers planting barley, peas, flax, and various vegetable crops.
As reported by Ukrinform, due to demining efforts, farmers in the Mykolaiv region aim to cultivate an additional 100,000 hectares of land compared to the previous year.
