Russia is expanding the number of psyop units within the Russian armed forces to scale up the information war against Ukraine and to more actively target audiences in Europe, the USA, the Middle East, and Asia.
The latest expansion of information warfare pursues five goals, says the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko, Ukrinform reports.
“Russia is expanding the number of psyop units in its armed forces not only to scale up the information war against Ukraine, but also to actively work in Europe, the USA, the Middle East, and Asia. The European NATO allies are now Russia’s main target. Russia is unable to defeat Ukraine in its media space with, so it is focusing on several goals in that of the Western world,” Kovalenko noted.
According to the official, the Russian Federation pursues five goals: segmentation of the European Union, destruction of NATO institutionality, discrediting Ukraine’s subjectivity, weakening power institutions within the United States, and advancing the Russian agenda in the Middle East and Asia to prevent negative trends, including regarding energy prices.
Kovalenko also emphasized that forces working in the information space should become the basis of the security of NATO and European countries on principle, because a lot depends on this field in the next five to 10 ears.
“Russia’s military propaganda has long been working against Europe and the West, and in response it mostly receives blows from us, not from the collective West, although it is long overdue to choose a force scenario here,” the official believes.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Russia is expanding the number of psyop units within the armed forces. Special information influence units have been set up within the 3rd and 51st combined arms armies.
