At the talks in Jeddah, Ukraine demonstrated its readiness for a temporary ceasefire to achieve peace, and now Russia must show whether it truly desires peace.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who spoke at the ministerial-level panel discussion “The Peace Tableau: Actions and Aspiration” within the framework of the international conference “The Raisina Dialogue 2025” in New Delhi, Ukrinform reports with reference to MFA Ukraine’s press service.

The head of the foreign ministry spoke of the progress in the negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations.
“Ukraine is the country that is most interested in achieving peace, a just, lasting, comprehensive one. We are clearly showing our readiness for a temporary ceasefire. But this is also a global test for Russia. It is time for them to show whether they really want peace,” Sybiha emphasized.
The minister noted that after the negotiations in Jeddah, Ukraine saw a different dynamic of the processes, as well as new additional opportunities to end the war as early as this year. He emphasized that Ukraine was not an obstacle to achieving peace.
“Achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace is also in a global interest,” the head of Ukrainian diplomacy added.
Sybiha recalled the elements of the country’s principled position: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine and nothing about Europe without Europe; no compromises at the cost of Ukrainian territorial integrity or sovereignty, no limitations on Ukraine’s military potential; no third country has the right to block the choice of the Ukrainian people to be part of any alliances.
“We count on the support of the international community because this is about principles. It is about respect for the principle of territorial integrity and sovereignty, the UN Charter, as well as the restoration of a rules-based global order,” the Foreign Minister stressed.
As reported, following the U.S.-Ukrainian meeting in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on March 11, Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept the U.S. proposal for the immediate introduction of a temporary, 30-day ceasefire, provided that it is accepted and simultaneously implemented by the Russian Federation. Putin did not reject the idea on principle, while noting “nuances” associated with a number of Moscow’s own conditions.
U.S. President Donald Trump said many elements of a final peace deal in Ukraine have already been agreed upon, but much remains to be done, and this will be the subject of his phone call with Vladimir Putin, scheduled for March 18.
