Ukraine is discussing with the Netherlands the potential use of its domestic gas storage facilities to support the energy needs of EU Member States, while also collaborating with Denmark on projects to rebuild damaged energy infrastructure.
These discussions took place during meetings between EU Energy Ministers in Brussels, Ukrinform reports, citing the Ministry of Energy.
In a bilateral meeting with Sophie Hermans, the Netherlands’ Minister of Climate Policy and Green Growth, Ukraine’s Minister of Energy German Galushchenko focused on enhancing the energy security of the European region. Discussions included the potential use of Ukrainian gas storage facilities for EU needs.

Galushchenko highlighted that European traders stored gas in Ukrainian underground facilities during the winter of 2023-2024, emphasizing that such storage by European companies is key to ensuring the EU’s energy security. He noted that Ukraine, with the largest gas storage capacity in Europe, offers efficient and cost-effective infrastructure equipped with high-capacity interconnectors.

The meeting also addressed the protection of energy and gas infrastructure and the Netherlands’ support for Ukraine’s fuel and energy sector, including vital equipment for restoration.
Galushchenko also met with Denmark’s Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard to discuss strengthening the Ukrainian-Danish energy partnership. The discussion also focused on supporting Ukraine’s energy sector, ongoing restoration of infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks, and renewable energy development.

The Ukrainian minister underscored the success of joint infrastructure recovery projects, noting that the Ukrainian-Danish partnership has helped meet critical needs in the Mykolaiv region. The parties agreed to continue cooperation in the relevant areas, as well as on the cyber defense of information energy infrastructure facilities.
