Witkoff hopes for complete ceasefire in Ukraine in few weeks

He said this on Tuesday in an interview with Bloomberg Television, Ukrinform reports.

“I thought the call was epic,” said Witkoff.

He noted that during the conversation between the U.S. and Russian leaders on Tuesday, “lots of progress has been made, largely thanks to Donald Trump’s efforts. According to the special envoy, the call was outcome-oriented.

The parties agreed on a path to achieve certain conditions for a ceasefire today and a “full-on ceasefire”, which will continue to be discussed in the coming days, he explained, adding that he believes in a couple of weeks, this could be achieved.

In this context, he emphasized that now the technical teams “dot the i’s and cross the t’s”. According to him, the first meetings at this level will be held in Saudi Arabia on Monday and Tuesday.

In response to a question about possible sanctions against Russia, which Treasury Secretary Scott Besant had previously stated would be introduced if necessary, Witkoff noted this had not been discussed in the communication between Trump and Putin. On the contrary, according to Witkoff, in case of success and reaching agreements on a ceasefire and a final truce, the U.S. administration is considering the possibility of easing the sanctions pressure on Russia.

At the same time, Witkoff emphasized that everyone in the U.S. team is engaged in their own field of activity.

“We are talking in a collegial, constructive manner, and everyone is focused on the result, which is the cessation of hostilities and the cessation of killings there (in Ukraine – ed.)”, – the special envoy of the US President emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on Tuesday, March 18, U.S. President Donald Trump had a phone call with Russian leader Putin. Following the call, the White House announced that the Russian side had agreed to a limited ceasefire at energy and infrastructure facilities in Ukraine.
