UK must react quickly if Ukraine peace deal struck – Starmer

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Thursday that it is crucial for the United Kingdom and its allies to be able to react immediately if a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine is struck.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Reuters, citing the UK Prime Minister’s remarks during a visit to a nuclear submarine facility.

Starmer’s statement came against the backdrop of a meeting of military chiefs from dozens of countries in the UK, where they had veen discussing plans for the possible deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

“(Our) plans are focusing on keeping the sky safe, the sea safe and the border safe and secure in Ukraine, and working with the Ukrainians,” Starmer told reporters.

He emphasized that London and its allies are working “at pace” since it is uncertain whether a there will be a deal.

“I certainly hope there will be, but if there’s a deal, it’s really important that we’re able to react straight away,” he stated.

As Ukrinform previously reported, on March 20, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer boarded one of the UK’s nuclear submarines, HMS Vanguard, which had been on patrol at sea for over 200 days.

On March 15, Starmer announced that military chiefs would meet in the UK on Thursday to develop concrete plans for supporting a future peace deal.
