President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, together with his Czech counterpart Petr Pavel, visited the village of Moshchun in Kyiv region, where fierce battles to repel Russian forces were fought at the outset of the invasion in 2022.
Zelensky reported this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.
“Today, we began the day with President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel and our meeting in Moshchun, Kyiv region – a place that is both symbolic and deeply memorable for all of us in Ukraine. The battles for Moshchun against the Russian occupiers played a crucial role in the defense of Kyiv, and therefore the defense of our entire country,” Zelensky noted.
The presidents honored the memory of the fallen soldiers who fought for the freedom of Ukraine, and thanked all the heroes, thanks to whom, according to Zelensky, “we are here today – in Ukrainian Kyiv, in our independent state.”

“And it will always be this way – we will definitely preserve Ukraine’s independence,” Zelensky stressed.
The visit of the high-ranking guests took place on the anniversary of the liberation of Moshchun from Russian invaders, the President’s website reports. The leaders of the two countries honored the memory of Ukrainian defenders who perished while defending and liberating the village of Moshchun in 2022.
The presidents saw the “Angels of Victory” memorial, installed in the area where the decisive battles once unfolded.

Moschun became one of Kyiv’s key defensive lines, where the heaviest fighting raged in mid-March 2022. The Russians intended to break through Moshchun toward the capital, along the Hostomel – Bucha – Irpin route. On March 21, 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine completely pushed Russian troops out of Moshchun.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel arrived in the Ukrainian capital on the morning of March 21 after visiting Odesa.
