Reports of the Ukrainian Armed Forces conducting successful counterattacks in Toretsk have been confirmed.
Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for Ukraine’s Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Group of Forces, stated this on Ukrainian television, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“Yes, everything you said is true. The Russians are simply exhausted from trying to capture the city. According to their Ministry of Defense, they supposedly took it nearly two months ago, but in reality, they have been unable to establish control — and most likely never will. Now they are attempting to bypass the city from the flanks,” Trehubov said.
He stressed that Ukrainian forces are currently operating effectively in the Toretsk sector.
Regarding the situation near Chasiv Yar, Trehubov noted that Russian troops, having failed for months to seize the city, are now attempting to outflank it from the north.
“But they are being destroyed in open fields. The 24th Brigade and other Ukrainian defenders are operating effectively. The Russians are deploying large amounts of armored vehicles there — one of the few sectors where they are using them in significant numbers — but those vehicles are also being destroyed in large numbers,” he added.
Earlier reports said that Ukrainian forces had eliminated a Russian position in Toretsk, Donetsk region.
