Ukrainian military operating in the Kharkiv region’s war zone are seeing a higher intensity of drone use by Russian invasion forces.
This was reported on national television by the spokesman for the Kharkiv grouping of troops, Pavlo Shamshyn, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
Telling if weather changes influence the use of drones by the enemy, he said: “Of course, they do. Now we are observing both warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours. So the use of UAVs by the enemy is increasing. If in February the enemy employed an average of 70 to 80 kamikaze drones per day, now numbers have doubled.”
The spokesman pointed out that the enemy should not be underestimated, because the Russian army is quite technologically advanced.
“What we are observing in our zone is that enemy infantry groups are now actively using portable electronic warfare equipment… so that our drone crews cannot effectively engage them. But this does not always help them. In addition, they are using certain electronic warfare systems. This helps them see when our drones appear nearby,” Shamshin said.
According to the official, the Russians are also using shotguns to down Ukrainian UAVs, which proves to be a fairly effective tool.
“In addition, there have been significant changes in the use of equipment (by the Russians – ed.). Previously, the main means of delivering infantry to the front line… were MTLBs, armored personnel carriers, other armored vehicles, now these are mainly cheap vehicles – buggies, golf carts, at best it could be some kind of SUVs,” the spokesman said.
But mostly, he explained, the Russians try to advance on foot.
“And this is actually happening because the battlefield is now virtually completely controlled by drones. And when enemy vehicles are detected, we immediately employ all firepower available to destroy such equipment,” the spokesman added.
As reported, in the Kharkiv war zone, the Ukrainian military is currently recording no attempts by the Russians to cross the Vovcha River in the Vovchansk area.
